This is my station, circa the summer of 1976. The radio on the bottom left is the Midland 13-885, attached to a Turner +2 desk microphone. A Lafayette Comstat 25 is on the right, attached to an Astatic D-104. Sandwiched in the middle between the two radios is a Contex (ABC) model 6706 60 watt amplifier. I used to run the tube rigs with the covers off for better cooling. You can also see my recently acquired SBE Cortez sitting on top of the Midland, along with a Lafayette Micro 12 on top of that. The meter on the very top of the pile, is a Watt/SWR meter from a Demco Satellite set. The Demco radios had been sold, but I ended up with the meter. Knowing now what a collector's item the Demco radios ended up becoming, I wish I had purchased the whole set back then. The antenna showing just behind my back belongs to the Midland 13-428 walkie talkie which was, by then, pulling duty as the local fire call monitor. You can also see my budding 8-track tape collection behind me. Ah, a sign of the times......
