Ed (a.k.a. Billy Goat), was another of the early "pioneers" of the neighborhood teenaged CB scene. He lived about a 1/4 mile away, roughly in between Steve and myself, and was about 2 or 3 years older than me. Ed was the first "real" CB'er, who I made contact with on my original Sears 100mW base station. Ed ran a Lafayette Telsat 1023 base, with a Turner +2 desk mike, and with an 1/2 wave A/S Super Magnum antenna on top. Ed ‘s CB career lasted primarily from about 1972 to about 1974, with a brief resurgence in activity in 1980 when he put a mobile rig in his van. Ed was pretty much a "regular" guy. He had a life away from the radio, and didn’t fixate on "CB politics" the way guys like Steve and Jimmy did. Ed was not without a sense of humor though, and had been known to participate in a little agitation from time to time. Ed’s main purpose on the CB, was to chew the fat with his school friends, and to have fun. After he graduated from high school, he pretty much lost interest.
Today: The last time I saw Ed, was sometime in the early 80's. He had gotten married, and was working at a nearby nuke plant. What he’s being doing since then, is anyone’s guess.
