General Location: East Norriton Township.
Time Frame: 1970-1973
Background: Channel 14 was my first CB channel, by virtue of the fact that it was the only channel my 100 mW base station came with. This is where our very first CB group came together with our little walkie-talkies. This harkened back to a time when a QSO with someone 1/2 mile away was considered "DX". We also had our first contact and exposure to some "real" CB'ers here as well. By 1973, the remaining members of the original group who hadn't yet lost interest, moved up to better equipment. Once we were able to utilize channels other than just 14, we eventually took up residence on Channel 11, which was a popular channel which was normally included with the higher powered walkie-talkies that many of us eventually obtained, including the Realistic "Rover 1500", the Lafayette HA-310 1.5 watt, and the Midland 13-700 1 watt.

Background: Because Channel 14 was the "walkie-talkie" channel, may young people got their start in CB here. There have been several groups which hung out on channel 14, long after our group left. These are some of the people I knew from then:

Time Frame: 1985-1989
Background: This group was centered mostly in Norristown proper, and consisted mainly of teenagers, whom I thought of as "kids" since I was already in my mid to late 20's by then, and the generational differences were already glaringly apparent. While this was basically a fun loving group, the overall decline in social and moral values had manifested themselves, and the use of vulgarity over the air had become much more common, and they displayed a different attitude from what I remembered in the 70's. As some of the "cleaner" people lost interest and were slowly replaced by even more foul mouthed and belligerent people, this would be the final straw which caused me to back off from CB for a few years. The remnants of this group would later form the last group that I was ever associated with in the Norristown area, on Channel 29.
